Troubleshooting Guide
This page contains common troubleshooting issues and solutions for Mantle deployments.
General Troubleshooting
Mantle Lockout After Three Wrong Passwords
Description:
Entering an incorrect password three times can lock Mantle for 15 minutes.
Solution:
- Wait 15 minutes before retrying.
- Ensure you enter the correct credentials.
- If access is required immediately, contact an administrator.
DHCP Lease Assigned Before BIOS Process Completes
Description:
If an IP is leased before the BIOS process is completed, it means another device (e.g., a laptop) is pulling the IP.
Solution:
- Set a static IP on all build network devices to prevent them from obtaining a DHCP lease from the container.
Interrupted HPE EL8000 Datacenter Build
Description:
- If the build is interrupted after leasing all IPs, servers will continue to look for API calls.
- Restarting the build immediately will cause API calls to all blades at the start, leading to a failure.
Solution:
- Best practice: Power cycle the devices before starting another build to reset the state.
USB Issues
No USB1 Cable Connected on EL8000
- Cause: Missing USB1 cable prevents the BIOS process.
- Solution: Verify and properly connect the USB1 cable.
No USB Cables Connected at All
- Cause: Lack of required USB cables will cause build failures.
- Solution: Ensure all required USB cables are connected before starting a build.
Incorrect Password for HPE EL8000
- Cause: Entering the wrong password can cause authentication failures.
- Solution: Verify and enter the correct password.
Incorrect Write/Erase USB
- Cause: Using the server USB instead of the correct USB for Write/Erase.
- Solution: Ensure you use the correct USB when performing Write/Erase operations.
Incorrect USB for Network Build
- Cause: Using the server USB instead of the correct USB for network build.
- Solution: Use the correct USB for network build operations.
Adding Hosts to DSwitch Error
Description
- This issue occurs in some HPE EL8000 datacenter builds.
- Initially thought to be caused by switch modules not communicating with blades.
- The issue can also be caused by a blade not being seated correctly in the chassis backplane.
Solution Steps
In some specific HPE EL8000 datacenter builds, the user may come across this error below
Step 1: Log in to the Chassis Manager and Each ILO
- Access the Chassis Manager.
- Log in to each ILO.
- Refer to the image below:
Step 2: Check Network Adapters in ILO
- Navigate to System Information > Network.
- You should see two physical adapters:
- One to the backplane.
- One to the network controller.
- If only one adapter is visible:
- The blade is not communicating with the switch modules.
- Turn off the blade before reseating or replacing it.
Refer to the image below:
Step 3: Check Switch Modules
- If all blades show both adapters, the issue may be with the switch modules.
- Pull out the switch modules and reseat them.
Refer to the image below:
Step 4: Check for Hardware Failures
- If the issue persists after reseating blades and switch modules:
- There may be a hardware failure in the EL8000.
- Contact HPE support.
Conclusion
By following these troubleshooting steps, most EL8000 DSwitch errors can be resolved. If the problem persists, escalate to hardware support.
